Hello ACE families,
How was your first week? Did everything go smoothly or did you experience some road bumps during the week? Remember, while you are getting your footing, the most important subjects to tackle every week will be math and language arts as these are foundational to the rest of the subjects.
If you’re struggling and need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Academic Deans (typically your child’s main teacher for K-7 grade students; see contact info. listed at the bottom of this email). Send an email to let them know your questions and concerns. Attached to this email is a video from ACE veteran mom Mrs. Earlywine. This video explains the work box/pile system which helps students learn to be more independent in completing school work Also, if you are schooling at home but don’t have the luxury of a school room (not many of us do), you might find these ideas helpful for homeschooling in small spaces www.oakmeadow.com/setting-up-your-homeschool-space/ or My favorite resource over the years has been a hanging file box; we have several free file boxes available for pick-up by the office. These are super handy for organizing HLAs, answer keys, and papers you need to keep separate from the school books.
“Got It” Reply
Each week we meet one of our charter school requirements by sending out a newsletter and families acknowledging that it was received/read. This weekly electronic check-in gives you an opportunity to ask your AD (Academic Dean) questions, request materials or clarification, and be apprised of the school’s news. After you receive the message via JupiterEd, do the following: Click “Forward”; type in your ADs email address; Reply “Thanks”, “Got it” or a message, question, or comment. ADs document the weekly reply as required by the ODE.
ACE Emails
Teachers will be transferring over to ACE emails by Week 3, and JupiterEd will be updated to send to your ACE email accounts instead of personal accounts. Please make sure you have your ACE email working, so that you don’t miss important school information. Also, the easiest way to access Google Drive is to use your ACE email. If you need help logging in, just let me know.
Safety To/From School & Pick Up Reminders
Student safety is a shared responsibility, and we encourage families to talk regularly with children about staying safe on the journey to and from school. Remind your child to use the designated crosswalks and sidewalks. Students should travel with a friend or trusted adult when possible and stay in familiar, well-populated areas. Talk with your child about recognizing unsafe situations, including when an unfamiliar person asks them to go somewhere, offers them a ride or gift, or asks them to keep a secret. Students should know that it is okay to say “No,” move away, and tell a trusted adult if someone makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Encourage your child to seek help from a teacher, school staff member or another trusted adult if they feel threatened or unsafe at any time. For additional reading on this subject, you may wish to refer to the books The Gift of Fear & Protecting the Gift by Gavin de Becker.
Afterschool Pick Up
For Grammar A-Dialectic 3 afterschool pick up, please let the teacher and office know how your child will be going home. We will always default to keeping the students in the classroom until a parent/guardian comes to retrieve them. If parents/guardians wish to give alternate instructions for the release of their child(ren), we prefer this in writing with very specific information about which days and where your child may be released.
Dialectic 4 and Rhetoric students will be released after school unless parents specifically request that they remain in the building. If possible, we still do appreciate knowing how D4 and Rhetoric students will be going home each day.
Thank you for partnering with us to help ensure every student arrives at school and returns home safely each day.
Medication Authorizations
Medication authorizations from last school year do not automatically roll over. Please stop by the office to update us on any medications your child will be taking on campus this year. Without proper authorization paperwork completed, ACE is only allowed to give basic first aid such as ice packs, bandages, and Neosporin/cleanser.

Fun Clubs begin on Tuesday, October 6. We have a lot of wonderful options to choose from. Check out the list and register here: forms.gle/TRTy2dDvhu9ZE2PZA
