ACE Newsletter - Week 1

Sep 7, 2026

Hello ACE families,

Tomorrow begins school Week 1, and we are so excited to see your smiling faces! We have a great week planned with lots of interesting information, new friends, and more. We are so happy to have you as part of our school community. Let’s make this year one filled with kindness, curiosity, growth, and success!

Summer HLA Completion

If you didn’t turn in your assigned summer HLA booklets yet, make sure you bring those to your teachers on Tuesday to ensure you earn the Barnes & Noble rewards and to avoid having Homework Club on Thursday.

Orientation Overview

Thank you for joining us at this year’s parent focused event. We hope you gained meaningful information to set you up for a successful year. Attached are the handout and the presentation slides in case you would like to review any information we covered.

Schooling Advice for Week 1

As you dive into your first at-home day of HLAs (Home-Linked Assignments) this Wednesday, you may have questions or be unsure of items needed. Students will receive a hard copy of their HLA sheet in class each week, but the HLA will also be attached to the weekly email for parents to access as well.

In addition, for Pre-Grammar – Dialectic 4, check out the Book Reference sheets for a visual aid in locating materials:drive.google.com/drive/folders/13-9pVPWkOqT8VybKXWo6nfzq0vg-e9RZ?usp=sharing

Use your school time this week to focus on math basics- do you have the math packet or math book you need; do you understand the lesson; how much of the lesson can you complete before lunch? Parents will grade the lesson, and students will correct the lesson (with or without your assistance). Parents will recheck the lesson to ensure it is completed to 100%. Wednesday lessons are due on Thursday, so bring in your lesson to be checked in by your teacher.

Door Code/Building Safety

Each week the door code will change. This week’s code is listed at the top of the weekly email. The door code should only be shared with those that have permission to pick up your child. The doors will remain closed and locked throughout the day. If you forget the code, use the doorbells located at either door.

Morning Drop Off Info.

School drop-off is staggered between 8:20 – 8:40 a.m. each day (door code doesn't activate until 8:20 a.m. so no need to come early). You are welcome to pull into our “Drop Off/No Parking” zone at the front of the building, park in our lot, or on the street (please be mindful of the neighbors and avoid blocking their driveways). We also have permission to park at 531 S. 10th Street (church a block down from school) for school days or school events.

Afterschool Pick Up/Club Info.

The school day ends at 3:30 p.m. Starting September 10, we will offer Homework Club for Grammar C – Rhetoric students each Thursday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Fun Clubs will begin October 6 (more info to come!).

Lunches

Grammar A-Dialectic 4 students should bring a cold lunch to school each day, to maximize their time to eat, talk, and play during their break (heating up food takes entirely too long!). We also encourage families to pack a few extra snacks as learning makes kids hungry. :)

You are also welcome to send an extra box of snacks to your child’s classroom (fruit snacks, granola bars, cracker packs, applesauce pouches, etc.). This will be a nice treat on days that students may have forgotten to bring a snack but could use a pick-me-up!

Construction Zone

Our Grammar breezeway is currently under construction to enclose the space making it more comfortable, usable, and secure. Contractors will not be working in the area on Tuesdays and Thursday, but there may be times we need to use alternate routes to get to the playground or around the construction projects. We’ll notify you if this affects drop off or pick up at all, but we don’t anticipate any issues.

Books & Book Boxes

After you unpack your book box this month, please return it to the office, so we can reuse the box next year. If you are missing any items (you’ll notice this when you start on this week’s HLAs), please let your Academic Dean know. They will request the materials for you.

Mailboxes

Mailboxes are in each classroom. Please make sure to check the mailbox daily for important news/booklets/handouts.

Tutors for Grammar Students

A few families would like to hire a Rhetoric student or possibly another family to help their younger students with their assignments. If you’d like more information, please let me know.

Weekly HLAs

Each week you can access a PDF of the HLAs here: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1a52AzrYKucypzrsrgX-5-UT1IZhLaiqG?usp=sharing
