ACE Newsletter - Week 4

Oct 6, 2025

Hello ACE families,

I hope you are off to a great start this week after a refreshing and relaxing break week! You may have gotten your work done the first week or you may be wrapping up some assignments today. Whichever way you decided to go, good job for completing tasks and starting out Week 4 on top of things! The beauty of ACE is the built-in flexibility you have when deciding each week when to get the work done based on your unique schedule! If you’d like a little encouragement on your hybrid school journey, check out this article: inhonorofdesign.com/2018/01/family-update-hybrid-model-schooling/ What the authors say about an adjustment period is very true! It takes a while to get a system together when doing school at home with your kiddos. Give yourself time to figure it out and let us know if we can help!

Annual Income Survey

By Friday, October 10, 2025, please complete the short ODE Household Income Survey: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScvxSijXqugRUK-mpKHwnT2yQiGpuB78rBiKtJwZiXf7Bb_mg/viewform

This report is used by the ODE to determine the amount of funding that each district receives. The form does not ask you to divulge precise information about your income or household members. Instead, you are asked to simply provide a yes or no response regarding whether the total income of all household members is above or below a certain amount. "Yes" or "No" is all that we share with the ODE. Thanks for your help!

Afterschool Fun Club Days (registration ends today @ 5 p.m.)

Fun Clubs begin on Tuesday, October 7. Fun Clubs with space available include: Chess, Pokémon, Scribble Society, and Wheels. To register for clubs, sign up here: forms.gle/PzKYPRzvhkx6E4Zd8 In order to facilitate a smooth transition to Clubs, we are no longer able to have students sign up on the day that Clubs begin. Registration closes at 5 p.m. on 10/6, so leaders can be well prepared for the beginning of Clubs.

Pick Up Time/Pick Up Procedures

After school pick up is promptly at 3:30 p.m. if students aren’t staying for Clubs or promptly at 4:30 p.m. if students are staying for Clubs. For all Pre-Grammar – Dialectic 1, we ask that parents pick their child up from their classroom unless we are notified that your child has permission to walk out of the building or permission to pick up other siblings in the building. We have noticed many students wandering the building unsure where to go, and for safety purposes, we’d like to be aware of all pick up plans.

Lunches

Grammar A- Dialectic 4: Please remember to send cold lunches on school days as students do not have an opportunity to heat up food, and ACE does not have a lunch program. We will call parents as soon as we are aware a student forgot their lunch, so families can bring something. The afternoon would be very long without something nutritious to eat!

SIF Receipts Due Soon

SIF (Supplemental Instructional Funds) is a program ACE uses to provide you with additional resources for students (see Section 601 in the handbook for details). SIF receipts for September are due October 9 for payment this month (by the 25th). We need a waiver for activities your child receives instruction in (ie., lessons such as dance, music, art, swimming; must be completed annually) and a Direct Deposit form for all payouts (typically only needs filled out one time). You can always submit receipts at any point in the month. If you miss the deadline, we will hold your paperwork until the next month.

Online waiver only (no paper waivers): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc7SwaNwA8TgoBtbTZ1YdmEZwWaZKNTyIOJW9M0H16NyfwDCQ/viewform

SIF files located in Google Drive: drive.google.com/drive/folders/19GHYqnBJnL_d4ZEif2n56mtDUCNkA3EL?usp=sharing (waiver link, Direct Deposit form, New SIF Cover Sheet, overview of program, SIF ideas).

Literary Parade

On Thursday, October 23, we are holding our annual Literary Parade! Students and staff get to dress up as a character from a book instead of wearing uniforms.

General guidelines:

No masks or face coverings, no weapons (even fake ones; nothing related to weapons at school, at all), and nothing scary/horror-related (remember, we are a K-12 school). Please make sure your costume is modest (no bare midriff/bare chest; low neckline or high slits) and that you’ll be able to comfortably study in your costume for the day (we don’t have a lot of time to be taking costumes on and off). Each person in appropriate costume will earn 10 points for their House team. If you have questions about your costume, please let me know.

Pumpkin Patch Time (registration ends 10/17)

Join us at Detering Orchards on October 30, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. To register and get more information, sign up here:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfAOi6wbCHnbgBNhAkIibKSg27v8AzXzu9CRQKfacmnHSihYw/viewform

Textbook Usage/Answer Keys

Most, if not all, textbooks are not consumables. Please make sure you do math, grammar, and Latin on notebook or graph paper and not in textbooks. Also, answer keys are for parent use only, so please keep these in a safe spot that students cannot access.

Family Connection Meeting

The next Family Connection Meeting has been moved from 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 16 to 3:45 p.m. the same day, so that Mrs. Ransom can teach us about the ACE Language Arts programs (Cursive First, Phonograms, Shurley English, and Saxon Grammar). Activities and supervision will be provided for Pre-Grammar – Grammar B students and Grammar C and up can join classroom Homework Clubs during the Family Meeting. If you’re interested in learning more about the how’s and why’s of the programs we use, we hope you’ll join us!

Art Auction Fundraiser (optional activity; entries due Thursday):

This term's Student Council fundraiser will be an Art Auction! Students have until Thursday, October 9th to submit something they are proud of. To encourage variety, we are assigning different styles to each level. Grammar level students can submit a painting, Dialectic level students can submit a mixed media piece, and Rhetoric students may create a charcoal or pencil (lead or colored) drawing. Please include the title of the work, your name and grade, and what materials were used to make it. All submissions must be brought to Mrs. Stacy's room by October 9th. The bidding will start the following Tuesday of Week 5 (10/14) and end Thursday of Week 6 (10/23). Everything will have a starting bid of $1.00, and families can put their bid on the art anytime during the auction period. The proceeds will go towards the Academy Ball in the spring. This is an excellent opportunity for students to show off their best work while also contributing to the ACE community. We look forward to seeing your stellar creations!

Sourdough Bread/Treats Fundraiser

Rhetoric student Nicole Wilhour is raising funds to pay for her trip to Barcelona with ACE next spring. If you would like to support her efforts and have a delicious sourdough treat in the process, you can order from her here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdECso6k1yMDmWZYzNwp-HAFg9MrhJ_hEhPHWu7gB3NgYZ33g/viewform

Have a great week!
