ACE Newsletter - Week 3

Sep 22, 2025

Hello ACE families,

Hurrah! We made it through the construction last week and we are going into the 3rd week of the continuous 3-week cycle that ACE follows. After classes are over on Thursday, you will have officially begun the “break” week, also known as Off Campus/4th Week (no regular school!). This is the blessing of year round school- built in breaks throughout the year!

Here’s an overview of what goes on during 4th week.

1. 4th Week Homework Club on Tuesday, September 30, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon for Grammar C- Dialectic 4 (note: Rhetoric is a full day, 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.). Homework Club is available for students needing help with missing work or figuring out the ACE system. ADs will notify you if Homework Club is required, but students are welcome to attend without an invitation (please just communicate with your AD so they are prepared to assist you).

2. Board Meetings are typically held during break week. The next board meeting is Tuesday, September 30, 9:00 a.m. for anyone interested in attending. We will meet in the computer lab or you can log in virtually (Video call link: meet.google.com/osr-maqp-wgg or dial: ‪(US) +1 252-843-1163 PIN: ‪321 704 387#)

3. Field trips, testing weeks, and other schoolwide events are often held during the break week. Check out the school calendar for a preview of these events. Our pumpkin patch field trip is coming up on October 30 (registration info/sign up is included in the newsletter).

4. Most importantly, break week is a little breather for everyone. ACE is intense (I’m sure that doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone after your first month), and this built-in break offers families a chance to make personal choices about their Home-Linked Assignments for the next two weeks. Some families choose to complete their week of HLAs before the next Tuesday just so they stay “on schedule” and can enjoy a full break. Other families like to take the two weeks to complete their HLAs, enjoying the less hectic pace (my personal choice!). It’s up to you as to which option you choose. Just remember to check over your HLAs and contact your Academic Dean with any questions as soon as possible.

And now that we’re nearing the end of our first three-week cycle, it’s a good time to reflect on this last month…How did school go for you? Are you acclimating after summer break or struggling a bit to get on a schedule? Remember, we have many resources to assist you: 1) Academic Deans- they want to help you succeed; 2) Family Connection Meetings (October 16, 9 a.m.); 3) other ACE families! Reach out- we are here for you!

A Note About Email…

It’s important that you are using your ACE email as ADs are transitioning away from personal emails to school emails only this week. Please make sure you send your AD your questions, comments, and suggestions with this week’s email reply using your ACE email account, so they can verify you are into the account. ADs want to hear how you’re doing and they try very hard to be responsive during the week (M-F), but weekends may be trickier to reach your AD and get a quick reply. ADs work tirelessly, and they will do their best to answer when they can. Just know that you might not get a superfast reply on the weekends!

Pumpkin Patch Time

It’s field trip time! Join us at Detering Orchards on October 30, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. To register and get more information, sign up here: forms.gle/WqZtfZKfa9CBuBEc8

Art Auction Fundraiser (optional activity):

This term's Student Council fundraiser will be an Art Auction! Students have until Thursday, October 9th to submit something they are proud of. To encourage variety, we are assigning different styles to each level. Grammar level students can submit a painting, Dialectic level students can submit a mixed media piece, and Rhetoric students may create a charcoal or pencil (lead or colored) drawing. Please include the title of the work, your name and grade, and what materials were used to make it. All submissions must be brought to Mrs. Stacy's room by October 9th. The bidding will start the following Tuesday of Week 5 (10/14) and end Thursday of Week 6 (10/23). Everything will have a starting bid of $1.00, and families can put their bid on the art anytime during the auction period. The proceeds will go towards the Academy Ball in the spring. This is an excellent opportunity for students to show off their best work while also contributing to the ACE community. We look forward to seeing your stellar creations!
