Sep 8, 2025
Hello ACE families,
Tomorrow begins Week 1 of school!! If you didn’t turn in your assigned Summer HLA booklets yet, make sure you bring those to your teachers on Tuesday to ensure you earn the Barnes & Noble rewards and to avoid having Homework Club on Thursday.
I hope the information included in this newsletter is helpful to you as you prepare for classes and the at-home part of ACE this week. As always, we are here to help, so please don’t hesitate to let us know your questions.
Crossing Guards
If you’re available to be a crossing guard each week (or some weeks), please let me know. Times are 8:15-8:45 a.m. and 3:25-3:45 p.m. on Tuesday/Thursday.
Morning Drop Off Info.
School drop-off is staggered between 8:20 – 8:40 a.m. each day (door code doesn't activate until 8:20 a.m. so no need to come early). You are welcome to pull into our “Drop Off/No Parking” zone at the front of the building, park in our lot, or on the street (please be mindful of the neighbors and avoid blocking their driveways). We also have permission to park at 531 S. 10th Street (church a block down from school) for school days or school events.
Afterschool Pick Up/Club Info.
The Grammar A- Rhetoric school day ends at 3:30 p.m. Starting September 11, we will offer Homework Club for Grammar C – Rhetoric students each Thursday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Rhetoric has additional opportunities for support, so check with Mrs. Hinkle for that schedule.
Beginning October 7, students will have the option to stay for Fun Clubs on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Club registration is open now: forms.gle/PzKYPRzvhkx6E4Zd8
Lunches
Grammar A-Dialectic 4 students should bring a cold lunch to school each day, so as to maximize their time to eat, talk, and play during their break (heating up food takes entirely too long!). We also encourage families to pack a few extra snacks as learning makes kids hungry. :)
You are also welcome to send an extra box of snacks to your child’s classroom (fruit snacks, granola bars, cracker packs, applesauce pouches, etc.). This will be a nice treat on days that students may have forgotten to bring a snack but could use a pick-me-up!
Books & Book Boxes
After you unpack your book box this month, please return it to the office so we can reuse the box next year. If you are missing any items (you’ll notice this when you start on this week’s HLAs), please let your Academic Dean know. They will request the materials for you.
Mailboxes
Mailboxes are located in each classroom. Please make sure to check your child’s mailbox daily for important news/booklets/handouts.
Family Connection Meeting
We will be holding a Q & A on Thursday September 11, 9:00 -10:00 a.m. in the library. We’ll cover accessing ACE email/JupiterEd, HLA organization and scheduling, and whatever else you might want to chat about.
Shrewsbury Field Trip
If you registered for this event, stop by the office to pick up your wristband/admission tickets. The trip is this weekend so you need to grab your tickets this week!
Orientation Bake Sale
If you selected bake sale items from the Spain Fundraiser, but didn’t have cash to pay for these, please make sure you stop by the office to take care of payments next week. Exact payment preferred.
Student Store Applications
Grammar D and up students- if you would like to work in the Student Store this year, please complete this application: forms.gle/P8mJ3KG455TAZdRd6
Sourdough Bread/Treats Fundraiser
Rhetoric student Nicole Wilhour is raising funds to pay for her trip to Barcelona with ACE next spring. If you would like to support her efforts and have a delicious sourdough treat in the process, you can order from her here: forms.gle/bWo2Puwqn3p1vp6y9
Schooling Advice for Week 1
As you dive into your first at-home day of HLAs (Home-Linked Assignments) this Wednesday, you may have questions or be unsure of items needed. Students will receive a hard copy of their HLA sheet in class each week, but the HLA will also be attached to the weekly email for parents to access as well.
In addition, for Pre-Grammar – Dialectic 3, check out the Book Reference sheets for a visual aid in locating materials: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1IH1gEuyEYU5ix6n0etCS_pZDlemFk45V?usp=sharing
Use your school time this week to focus on math basics- do you have the math packet or math book you need; do you understand the lesson; how much of the lesson can you complete before lunch? Parents will grade the lesson and students will correct the lesson (with or without your assistance). Parents will recheck the lesson to ensure it is completed to 100%. Wednesday lessons are due on Thursday, so bring in your lesson to be checked in by your teacher.
See you tomorrow for the first day of school!
